History

The Des Moines Historical Society was founded in 1978 by Melanie Draper and Joanne Smith.

Governance

The Des Moines Historical is incorporated as a not-for-profit Washington state corporation. Detailed information about how the Society functions is contained in our By-Laws. The Society is also qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to the Society are deductible from federal income taxes to the extent provided by law.
