Des Moines School (Wooden)

Located at 22001 Ninth Avenue S., the four-room wooden school was built in 1897. By 1910 it housed grades all the way through high school, with the older students occupying the two rooms on the second floor. In 1915 a brick addition housing three classrooms, an office and an auditorium was completed, but by 1921 the high school students, who had dwindled in numbers, were transferred to other area high schools. The entire school was destroyed by fire in January 1925.
