Brick Highway from Des Moines to Seattle

Des Moines Way was established from South Park to South 227th Street where it connected to the old Des Moines Dock that served as a automobile ferry terminal from 1916-1921. After World War I, Elm trees were planed along this road as a memorial to King County soldiers who died in the war. In downtown Des Moines there tree have since been removed due to disease and injury. There are still a number of elms north of South 216th Street lining what is now Des Moines Memorial Drive.
