Located on 220th Street, the Des Moines Field House was constructed in 1939-40. It is one of five Field Houses built in King County by the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The construction was in accordance with a national program to restore the economy in a post depression era. The Des Moines Field House is based on designs from the 1920s and 1930s and was to provide Des Moines with a community play field in the rustic style. Until the construction of a public library the east end of the Des Moines Field House acted as the local library. It is easy to see this magnificent structure has aged gracefully.
