North Hill Elementary School opened in 1954 with Ted Gary as principal, along with Manhattan Learning Center for the first two years. He served as principal at North Hill until 1976. Between 1979 and 1989 the facility was not part of the Highline School District and Seattle Christian Schools used the building. During the 1960s and 1970s the school had a major Library, and an outdoor teaching facility in the woods behind the play fields. You can see two of the three unique tile art work projects on the north wall next to the main parking lot. There are 366 students enrolled at North Hill Elementary in grades K-3 for the 2003-2004 school year.
